Mick Price is expecting a bold first-up showing from Roses In The Glen at Flemington on Saturday and believes the filly has the scope to go on to a black type race at the same track in June.

The daughter of Hussonet is nominated for the Peter Rowland Catering Hcp (1200m) and will be ridden by Craig Newitt while stablemate Roxit is engaged in the same race and will be handled by Dale Smith.

Roses In The Glen has had six starts for three wins around the 1200m range including two wins at Moonee Valley in December.

The filly hasn’t raced since she finished seventh to Instalment over 1400m at Flemington on January 14.

“That was her only bad run but she had had enough,” Price said.

Out of the Danzero mare Zerosa, a 1600m winner, Roses In The Glen is from the same family as Blamey Stakes winner and dual Caulfield Cup placegetter Grey Song.

“Roses In The Glen will go pretty good fresh and if she can win a race like this I’d like to try and get some black type with her in a race like the Creswick Stakes,” Price said.

The Listed $100,000 A R Creswick Stakes (1200m) for three-year-olds, a race Price won with another filly Dubleanny two years ago, is run at Flemington on June 9.

Roxit, a 1000m Moonee Valley maiden winner on debut last October, was beaten less than three-quarters of a length when fourth to Vain Attraction over 1200m at Caulfield on April 21.

“I had her ready to have a nice preparation in front of her, rather than the big hit first up and then nothing,” Price said.

Meanwhile trainer Patrick Payne is looking to test Zabeel three-year-old Turner Bayou at Saturday metropolitan level in the Schweppes Plate (2000m) after he came from last in a small field of six runners to win an 1800m Mildura maiden at his third start on April 16.

The gelding is from the Redoute’s Choice mare Classy Choice, a winner at 1800m and a half-sister to Group One Turnbull Stakes winner Devil Moon and from the same family as Melbourne Cup placegetter Skybeau.

Payne’s sister Michelle Payne retains the ride.
